Materials Department of Fortune 500 company in Peabody, MA is seeking a reputable individual to fill a senior research/engineering position.The candidate is expected to lead research and technology development projects and guide colleagues for most efficient team results. Typical projects focus on improving different ceramic and optical (conversion) materials and/or establish an understanding for moving in novel directions in designing solid state lighting devices. This involves exploiting interrelationships between mechanical/thermal/optical properties, chemical composition, processing, microstructure, defects and performance in various optical composites and ceramics used in LED/LD based applications. He/she will use a variety of diagnostic methods, investigate preferred precision finishing operations and work together with starting material and other external suppliers. The work will support product development efforts at various business units of the company as customers. Frequent, multi-party communication of results and planning for coordinated activities is required. The Scientist/Engineer will connect with other materials experts (in the US and worldwide) as well as with production environment to streamline activities for transferring the technologies in development. Conference presentations/ attendance and publication in journals are encouraged.Requirements: PhD degree in Materials Physics or Chemistry (alternatively in other related disciplines) 5-10 years of experience in the field of optical materials Notable experience in academic or industrial R&D and project coordination as well as team leading Recognized presence in the field as evidenced by conference presentations, publications, and / or intellectual property Demonstrated practical implementation potential (strongly desired) Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (a must-have).
