Duties include designing experiments; collecting, analyzing and interpreting data; technical problem solving; innovating creative solutions, and clear communication of findings.
Responsible for the design, implementation, alignment and manufacturing support of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) writing equipment including laser sources, optics, electronics, software and automation.Qualifications:
Experience with interferometry, diffractive and refractive optics, camera & imaging systems, measurement microscopes, and general laboratory optics is required.
A fundamental understanding of optics/photonics including imaging, illumination, radiometry and photometry, physical and geometric optics is required. Understanding of nanophotonics, waveguide optics, holography, and diffractive optics is highly preferred.
Hands-on experience with lasers, lenses, multilayer coatings, diffusers, diffractive optical elements, illumination and imaging optics.
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and good organizational skills
Must be confident in a highly dynamic and creative environment
Must be able to communicate and work well with multidisciplinary groups
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are required
Experience using LabView or LabWindows is highly preferred.
A strong background in optomechanics and automation, including precision alignment is highly preferred.
Experience in automation and optical testing methodologies is preferred.
Direct experience with spatial light modulators, diffractive optics, thin film optics, fiber optics, and optical coatings is desired
Software experience with technical computing software (such as MATLAB) optical design tools (such as Zemax OpticStudio) and CAD software is desiredEducation:
BS in optics, physics, electrical engineering or related fields, with 3+ years of experience in optical components or sub-systems including test and metrology; MS is preferred.
