MUST-HAVES

Develops Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) requirements for new products to align with assembly in an automated manufacturing environment

Executes design, debug and deployment of (automated) manufacturing solutions in fiber optic manufacturing facilities located in multiple geographies.

Analyzes measurement data to determine project feasibility and make recommendations on whether or not to proceed with a project.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

General Summary

The equipment engineering position is responsible for technology innovation, development, integration, and demonstration of new tooling, automation and processing technologies for current and future company products, thus improving quality, cycle time and profitability. The ideal candidate will be able to produce conceptual mechanical designs using superior creativity and ingenuity. A successful candidate will also have a strong level of competence in electrical controls and/or systems design and affinity with control software. The engineer will collaborate across multiple internal functional departments and with internal/external customers and suppliers to develop partnerships, allowing rapid development and demonstration of new technology concepts and solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Executes design, debug and deployment of (automated) manufacturing solutions in fiber optic manufacturing facilities located in multiple geographies.

Designs mechanical systems using 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo.

Collaborates with manufacturing, controls and process engineering peers to ensure meeting project requirements and timelines resulting with successful project completion.

Develops requirements and specifications through interviews with customers and internal stakeholders.

Analyzes measurement data to determine project feasibility and make recommendations on whether or not to proceed with a project.

Contributes to the intellectual property portfolio through trade secrets, patents and invention disclosures that have immediate or future potential benefit to the company.

Develops Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) requirements for new products to align with assembly in an automated manufacturing environment.

Champions compliance to DFM/DFA requirements.

Provides technical expertise on industry-wide developments.

Stays current on technology through formal education, training, participation in industry conferences and networking.

Experience with Fiber Optics experience a plus.

Project management to develop and maintain realistic but aggressive project schedules.

Ability to design and program PLC-based control systems a plus.



Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor s degree with at least 8 years engineering experience or Master s degree with at least 5 years engineering experience.

Ability to develop and deploy assembly and process equipment and automation systems for production of small components.

Mechanical design of tooling and automation systems using 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo.

Capable of analyzing data using Excel, Minitab or other software tools. Capable of using statistical methods to assess process performance prior to and during machine development.

Ability to assess capability of measurement tools and systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable collaboration with the global organization.

Proficiency with current MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project.

Ability to design and program PLC-based control systems a plus.

Lean Sigma black or green belt a plus.
