Description: The position is a hands-on aerospace-engineering hardware-focused fabrication technician located within the Engineering Fabrication and Development Lab of the Mechanical Engineering Directorate.
The primary job responsibilities include: the mechanical fabrication of test samples, shelf life testing, assembly and repair of composites, painting and coating, and testing of unique materials in support of internal customers for development. Other tasks may include developing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying structural components, and building fixturing and repairing tooling using advanced fabrication skills.
Technician will ensure compliance with all applicable company policies and procedures for laboratory operations. Requested tasks are verified by and evaluated with the customer and lab lead. The selected candidate reports directly to the Mechanical Engineering Labs Supervisor.
3 years minimum fabrication experience in plastics, and composites.
Experience in application of paint primers and topcoats.
Working fabrication knowledge of composites, epoxies, and resins.
Ability to execute Mil-Spec Standards processes.
Demonstrated sound writing and verbal communication skills in a teaming environment.
Ability to interface with engineering and program personnel.
Able to read engineering drawings.
Able to obtain respirator, painting, certifications.
Ability to obtain Secret Clearance
Self-starter able to work with minimal direction.
Experience in Metal fabrication.
Knowledge of GD&T.
Experience with laboratory ovens and temperature measuring devices.
Current DoD Secret clearance.
