Job Description

The Panther Group is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join our technology team at a University in Boston, MA.  This is a hybrid opportunity!
The University is embarking on a transformative journey to integrate AI systems across teaching, learning, research, and administrative functions. To realize the full value of this opportunity, we are seeking to hire specialized roles—AI Engineer, AI Operations Specialist, and AI Prompt Engineer—to lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise-grade AI systems and data infrastructure.

These roles are critical to driving innovation, automating routine operations, and positioning the University at the forefront of AI adoption in higher education. This is a strategic investment aimed at enhancing student experiences, accelerating research, and increasing institutional efficiency through responsible and scalable AI technologies.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy AI and machine learning systems in production environments across academic and administrative areas.

  • Build and manage scalable, secure, and efficient AI architectures that meet enterprise-grade performance and security standards.

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines using modern tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Spark, Kafka, cloud platforms).

  • Implement and monitor machine learning models throughout the full ML lifecycle, from data preparation to model deployment and maintenance.

  • Apply advanced natural language processing (NLP) techniques and prompt engineering strategies using large language models (LLMs).

  • Deploy AI solutions in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and leverage cloud-native AI tools and services.

  • Ensure seamless integration of AI systems with existing infrastructure including APIs, databases, and authentication services.

  • Optimize AI models for performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in real-world, resource-constrained environments.

  • Collaborate with academic and administrative stakeholders to translate business requirements into AI-powered solutions.

  • Maintain strong documentation and communication practices for technical systems and strategic presentations.

  • Champion AI ethics and governance by implementing responsible AI practices including bias mitigation and compliance with data privacy regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in AI/ML engineering or related roles, with at least 2 years working with production AI systems in enterprise environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience with AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
  • Deep experience with data engineering, including SQL, data warehousing (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift), and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Proficient in deploying MLOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for AI workflows.

  • Advanced knowledge of NLP and LLM implementation strategies, including prompt and context management.

  • Experience integrating AI systems with enterprise tools, APIs, and IT infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with AI security best practices and model performance optimization techniques.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of AI ethics, including transparency, fairness, and bias reduction.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience in higher education or similar large, complex organizations is preferred.
