Job Description

Our client is hiring a Controller to oversee and manage the financial activities of the company. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will ensure the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and optimization of internal controls. This role will be pivotal in supporting strategic financial planning, managing day-to-day accounting functions, and leading financial analysis efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial analysis, and team leadership.  
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Financial Reporting & Compliance: 
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc financial reports to the CFO for review.
  • Oversee the month-end close process by ensuring all transactions, both automated and manually generated, are complete, accurate, and substantiated with supporting documentation. 
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards, if applicable.
  • Serve as the point of contact for the company’s CPA firm and support their preparation of timely and accurate tax filings by providing various financial schedules, reports, and statements.  
  • Support and operate as the point of contact for our external CPA firm in the annual preparation of Reviewed Financial Statements.  
  • Monitor the company’s debt covenants and initiate actionable steps to ensure minimum thresholds are met.  
  • Manage and make certain that all required financial reports are submitted to external stakeholders by the predetermined deadlines.  
  • Other tasks and duties as delegated by CFO, COO/President, and/or CEO.  
 
Financial Planning, Budgeting, and Analysis:
  • Support the CFO in the development of the annual financial plans/forecasts.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly reforecasts.  
  • Identify and monitor actual vs. plan variances, supply department heads with monthly reporting of their spend activities vs. plan, and coordinate with leadership by providing actionable insights that address expense variances. 
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to support strategic decision making.
  • Support the CFO in preparing presentations and reports for senior management and stakeholders.
 Cash Flow & Treasury Management:
  • Review the company’s cash flow and establish an early warning system of controls that identify when/if cash levels are nearing, or fall below, predetermined minimum thresholds.  
  • Establish relationship with serve as a key point of contact with the company’s external financial institutions, on both the retail and lending sides.
 
Team Leadership & Development:
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
  • Foster a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams, including, but not limited to, operations, customer service, compounding/manufacturing, and sales to optimize financial performance.
 Other:
  • Evaluate existing controls, and design/revise new or existing controls to ensure a robust internal control system is in place to safeguard the company's assets.
  • Regularly review and improve financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare monthly invoicing for the company’s Herd Management program.
  • Establish a cadence in which the AR and AP aging’s are reviewed, with particular emphasis being placed on outstanding AR that’s past due.
   
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

 
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation preferred but not required.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity (e.g., as a Controller or Accounting Manager).
  • Proven experience overseeing the month-end close process, preparation of financial reports, statements, and analysis, financial reporting to external stakeholders, and overall general ledger maintenance.
  • Prior involvement in annual planning, budgeting, and periodic reforecasting.  
  • Familiarity with the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry is a plus.
Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial software, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to quickly learn and utilize new systems/software that supports financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to translate data, and communicate insights into actionable steps to individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
