Crater/Packer
Primary responsibilities:
Assist with constructing a suitable packaging crate using typical lumber products and sometimes bolt them down using metal brackets. High volume products will be in partially assembled pallets. Under general supervision, perform shipping duties for both large and small orders using power tools such as large table saw, circular saw, drill press and hand tools.

Job Description
WHAT YOU WILL DO
•    Assembles boxes, skids, crates, or platforms used for shipping equipment and machine parts.
•    Plans and builds or assembles the most effective crating method for new or unusual items.
•    Builds or otherwise prepares bracing and other support needed for safe transportation via transport truck     or railroad car.
•    Uses forklift to load and place heavy machinery on skids or blocks.
•    Secures machinery or parts to skids by using appropriate packing materials including wood crossbars and     metal strapping.
•    Labels crates and boxes with necessary shipping and identification information.
•    Manages and maintains lumber and crating materials inventory.
•    Completes requisition forms and reorders materials as necessary or designated.
•    Perform crating functions both complex and simple using power tools and all items associated with that     area.
•    Be able to take measurements of items being crated and make skids accordingly.
•    Responsible for packaging smaller items for shipment
•    Unload trucks when necessary
•    Use of light power tools (saws, impact drill) build crates using lumber & plywood for the appropriate     shipping method (air, Ocean, truck) to domestic and international shipments.
•    Willingness to cross-train and work in other areas of manufacturing such as receiving, small parcel     shipping as needed.
•    Must adhere to strict safety guidelines with proper PPE, lifting capacity and other behavior that     reinforces safety on the job.
•    Load trucks using a fork-lift with the product once crating is finished.
•    Monitor stock levels and order materials, as necessary.
•    Ability to look at a drawing and come up with a crate and be able to communicate engineering improvements     or changes needed to an existing drawing.
•    Willingness to learn from others with prior experience.
•    Familiarity with using power tools and fork-lift experience.

Qualifications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
•    Prior lumber / carpentry / framing experience is highly desired.
•    Ability to make and follow handmade sketches of required crates.
•    Familiarity with light weight power tools and hand tools.
•    Dependable and independent worker and at times work independently.
•    Ability to adjust to the unknown, ask questions, gain support from peers.
•    Proficient with simple hand tools and power saw.
•    Ability to follow directions and adhere to safety protocols.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or other software as needed to prepare labels for shipment.
