Engineering Project Manager - Military Vehicle Wheeled Systems

Job Description

We are hiring an Engineering Project Manager within the Wheeled Product Management organization for our client in the Sterling Heights, MI area.  The primary platforms supported within this portfolio are the Stryker and Sgt Stout vehicles.  While in this role the EPM will be responsible for both production support as well as sustainment activities.  This will be accomplished by providing engineering leadership of a cross-functional team with responsibility and authority to deliver key products within schedule, budgetary, and technical constraints.

Responsibilities
Engineering Support to Production
  • Lead the technical management and resolution of production related problem reports.
  • Collaborate with technical leads to ensure high quality corrective actions are developed, validated, and approved critical/significant issues that pose a significant risk to the production program
  • Coordinate efforts related to the Joint Change Review Board (JCRB).
Sustainment – Task Orders and Obsolescence
  • Serve as a primary technical interface for internal & external customers.
  • Support proposal development and associated kick-off packages in response to customer RFPs.
  • Create project plans/schedules by working with the Engineering organization, our major subcontractors and other functional organizations.  Ensuring project schedules are synchronized and integrated between our client and our subcontractor partners. This includes formal Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) deliveries to the customer in accordance with the contract.
  • Apply the principles of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) to manage all projects within agreed upon contract scope, schedule and budget to a high level of quality and ensuring product safety for the soldier.
  • Ensure all project milestones are completed in alignment with our internal processes.
  • Forecasting all engineering manpower for the project(s) for which you are responsible.
  • Identify critical issues/risks requiring action in a timely manner and manage to closure.
  • Provide status of projects to various stakeholders (both internal and external).
  • Utilize and/or develop metrics for monitoring project performances.
  • Able to read, comprehend, interpret, author, and manage contractual language/scope.
Position requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or Systems Engineering.  Other technical degrees will be considered with relevant experience. 
  • Advanced/additional degree, MBA or MS a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience related to the role.
  • 5+ years relevant experience in the engineering/defense industries desired.
  • Expectation is that the candidate possesses, understands, and can apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of project management to plan and execute engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated project engineering experience overseeing complex technical projects.
  • Proven experience in building/maintaining customer relationships
  • Proven ability to lead multi-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation.
  • Analytical skills and ability to direct and consult on technical analyses.
  • Must have excellent business acumen and negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of business finances, project budget management and forecasting, scheduling tools, and critical path analysis.
  • Must be willing to travel (domestic and/or foreign) as needed (10%).
  • Proficiency in Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office 365 applications.
