Our client, an established food manufacturing operation is seeking a Process Controls Engineer to support its maintenance function through leadership in preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and electrical controls troubleshooting. This role will also assist with departmental oversight and ensure operational efficiency of automation systems across the facility.
Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain a variety of automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, drives, servo systems, robotics, network hardware, and industrial computing equipment.
Diagnose and resolve control system issues, and support the maintenance team in troubleshooting production equipment using PLC diagnostics.
Modify control system programs to enhance system performance or address issues.
Support the integration and commissioning of new machinery by setting up network configurations, collecting relevant software, and verifying connectivity.
Maintain updated backups and documentation of all system changes and configurations.
Communicate all software modifications to the appropriate internal review team.
Train maintenance personnel in fundamental electrical troubleshooting and part replacement procedures.
Collaborate with engineering and operations to support departmental management objectives.
Provide hands-on support for equipment breakdowns and respond to on-floor technical issues.
Be available for after-hours support, both remotely and on-site, as needed.
Serve as backup for supervisory engineering roles during absences.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with industrial automation and controls systems.
Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (food manufacturing preferred but not required).
Proficiency with Allen Bradley platforms including SLC and Logix PLCs, PanelView HMIs, PowerFlex drives, and Kinetix servo systems.
Ability to read, interpret, and revise electrical schematics.
Skilled in electrical troubleshooting and component integration.
Knowledge of Ethernet/IP networking in industrial settings.
Ability to configure and troubleshoot PCs in an automation context.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems to support cross-functional troubleshooting.
Willingness to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
