Job Description

As a Product Development Engineer at our client in Athens, OH, you will translate market requirements into product concepts and design requirements. You will be responsible for designing products, verifying products meet requirements, developing production methods, and supporting activities required to bring products to market.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Product Development Engineer II will have responsibility for the design and development of products assigned, including but not limited to the items listed below:
  • Establish design input requirements to ensure products satisfy market and customer requirements.
  • Generate design concepts for ultra-low temperature freezer components including sheet metal, insulation, hardware, and Stirling engines. Test product feasibility against requirements.
  • Develop product designs, prototypes, test plans, and manufacturing processes that will endure a safe, effective, and marketable product.
  • Execute design changes for commercially available products to improve reliability and/or reduce cost.
  • Perform technical risk assessments and if necessary, establish mitigation plans to minimize product risks.
  • Manage and complete technical projects according to established budgets and timelines.
Reporting Relationships:
This position reports to Vice President of Engineering
Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles including thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, stress analysis, and material science.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) and its application.
  • Proficient in CAD systems; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Highly motivated, goal oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Working knowledge of Product Development Process, Risk Management, Root Cause Corrective Action, and Quality Control Systems.
  • Design experience with free-piston Stirling engines desirable.
  • Domestic travel up to 5-10%.

Job Specifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 – 8 years of experience in product development.
  • Experience with HVAC or refrigeration equipment is desirable.
