Job Description

Position Summary:
The Senior Manufacturing Accountant is a hands‑on, highly skilled accounting professional responsible for supporting the month‑end close, maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing AP exceptions, backing up AR and cash application, managing sales and use tax compliance, and supporting cost and inventory accounting in a manufacturing environment. This role requires regular interaction with operations, production, and warehouse teams to validate transactions, investigate variances, and ensure accurate reporting. The Senior Accountant serves as the Director of Accounting’s primary partner in delivering timely, accurate, and audit‑ready financial statements in a lean, fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
1. Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Analyze balance sheet and P&L variances and provide insights to the Director of Accounting.
  • Assist in the monthly, quarterly and annual close process.
  • Maintain audit‑ready documentation, schedules, and support external audits.
 
2. Accounts Payable (AP) – Exception‑Based Oversight
  • Process AP transactions with accurate GL coding and proper approvals.
  • Own the AP exception queue and resolve discrepancies with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Review automated invoice matching, coding, and posting for accuracy.
  • Manage weekly payment runs, including ACH payments, check processing, and wires.
  • Ensure proper cutoff, matching, and GL coding for AP transactions.
 
3. Accounts Receivable (AR) – Backup Support
  • Serve as backup for invoicing, cash application, and customer account maintenance.
  • Provide guidance to the AR Clerk on complex billing or collections issues.
  • Review AR aging and identify issues or trends.
  • Assist with customer reconciliations and dispute resolution.
 
4. Cash Processing
  • Support daily cash reconciliation and bank activity review.
  • Serve as backup for cash application and deposit posting.
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting through accurate AP/AR and bank reporting.
 
5. Sales & Use Tax Compliance
  • Manage sales and use tax compliance across all jurisdictions.
  • Review transactions for proper tax treatment and taxability rules.
  • Monitor nexus and ensure proper tax settings within ERP and Avalara.
  • Support sales tax audits with documentation and reconciliations.
  • Avalara experience is strongly preferred.
 
6. Cost Accounting & Operations Support
  • Collaborate with operations to ensure accurate capture of production costs, inventory movements, and labor reporting.
  • Assist with standard cost updates.
  • Help resolve discrepancies between production, purchasing, and accounting.
  • Provide financial insights that support production planning, purchasing, and supply chain decisions.
 
7. ERP & Process Improvement
  • Enter, validate, and maintain accounting data in Epicor Kinetic.
  • Support automation initiatives in AP, AR, and close processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and reduce manual work.

Qualifications
 
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience with month‑end close and reconciliations.
  • Hands‑on experience with AP, AR, and cash processing.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a lean team environment.
 
Preferred:
  • Manufacturing or inventory‑based industry experience.
  • Epicor Kinetic or similar ERP experience.
  • Avalara or other tax automation tools.
