Job Description

Our client, a premiere real estate firm in Boston, is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join their team.

Please note: This position is a fully in-office position, located in Boston.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for preparing accurate monthly and annual financial statements with all associated billings, CPI calculations, Real Estate tax, operating expenses and heat billing assessments for each property. In addition, the Senior Property Accountant will review all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions plus reconciling multiple bank accounts.   
Skills of an experienced accounting professional and the desire to assume responsibilities in a challenging business environment are required. This position requires a thorough understanding of current billing structures for real estate accounting in general and within the company. Solid interpersonal skills are also required in dealing with company-wide staff and management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Reviews and approves the Accounts Payable Specialist’s preliminary check runs, and deposits.
  • Reviews Accounts Receivable Aging’s to ensure timely collection of rent.
  • Reviews Recurring charges to verify they are posted timely and accurately to tenant accounts.
  • Prepares Financial Statement packages for two mixed use (commercial and retail) properties.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations for multiple checking accounts.
  • Prepares monthly closing.
  • Prepares monthly calculations of management fees.
  • Prepares real estate tax billings, operating expense billings, utility billings and CPI increase billings.
  • Prepares annual statements and reporting package to auditors and tax preparers.
  • Maintains all personnel files.
  • Reviews time report submissions for accuracy verifying hourly totals for overtime, vacation and personal time.
  • Overseeing the accurate and timely production of paychecks for company employees as well as timely filing of employment reports, taxes, withholdings and 401(k) through ADP.

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
  • College Degree required, Bachelors in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • 5+ years of real estate accounting experience
  • Superb communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical capabilities
