  Position Summary
The Transportation Training & Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing all training, compliance, and operational support for a school transportation program. This role ensures that drivers and monitors are properly trained, licensed, and compliant with all federal, state, and organizational requirements while supporting the safe and efficient transportation of students. The position works closely with operational leadership to promote safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the transportation department.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver training programs for school bus drivers and bus monitors, including driving procedures, student supervision, safety protocols, and emergency bus evacuation procedures.
  • Provide instruction and support to employees seeking to obtain or maintain Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements and applicable endorsements.
  • Maintain comprehensive training records, certifications, and compliance documentation for all transportation personnel.
  • Coordinate mandatory training programs, including First Aid/CPR certification and emergency evacuation drills.
  • Maintain driver and monitor qualification records, including all required regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct field observations and performance evaluations of drivers and monitors to ensure adherence to established safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain accident records and Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing documentation.
  • Ensure transportation staff remain current with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and applicable state transportation requirements.
  • Ensure transportation policies, procedures, and operating practices remain current, compliant, and consistently followed.
  • Collaborate with educational and program staff to support safe, efficient, and reliable student transportation, including route coordination and student pickup/drop-off procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the leadership team and attend required organizational and departmental meetings.
  • Review and recommend updates to transportation policies, procedures, and compliance practices.
  • Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of bus drivers and monitors.
  • Communicate regulatory updates, operational changes, and best practices to transportation personnel.
  • Promote a culture centered on safety, professionalism, integrity, inclusion, and exceptional service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to successfully pass all required background screenings, including criminal history, child protection, and fingerprint-based checks.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Valid CDL Class A or B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in pupil transportation or school transportation operations.
  • Clean motor vehicle driving record for the past three (3) years.
  • Valid Massachusetts School Bus Driver Certificate.
  • Valid School Bus Driver Instructor Certificate.
  • Current Certified Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) certification.
  • Ability to obtain Notary Public certification within three months of hire.
  • Strong organizational, customer service, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and training transportation staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and the ability to learn transportation management and compliance systems.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.
  • Ability to meet all required pre-employment medical and immunization requirements.
